Linkit SPF Filtering
Was it you that was heard
saying that you receive too much Junk Email?
Linkit
Internet Services is proud to state that our Email Server which includes domain
names hosted by Linkit Internet Services uses SPF (Sender Policy Framework).
SPF
Filtering is designed to reduce the avenues for unscrupulous Spammers by rejecting
email sent from any email address where the domain name in that address does
not match the domain name in the sending mail server. ie if you are using your
own domain name in your email address (fred@fredbloggs.com) and have your outgoing
email (SMTP) server name set as your ISP's (eg. mail.bigpond.com) then your
emails will be rejected by the Linkit Mail Server and an error message will
be bounced back to you.
We apologise
for any inconvenience that this may occur to you but we do not apologise to
anyone for taking a proactive step towards the reduction of SPAM.
Here
is the solutions to the problem:
Solution
1: Select the email address that is supplied to you by your ISP to send your
emails.
Solution
2: If you desire to send email using your own domain name.
As
the majority of email users use Outlook Express these instructions are targeted
towards that program. Other email programs can also be configured similarly.
Step 1: Open Outlook Express and go to "Tools" - "Accounts"
- select the appropriate email account that you are trying to send from and
click on "Properties"
Step 2:
Click on the "Servers" tab and change your Outgoing Server (SMTP)
name to match your email domain name (You may need to check with you domain
name host to confirm the correct setting).
Also be aware that some ISP's do not allow other domain names to use their Outgoing
Servers to send email unless the domain name is hosted by them.
Some statistics
state that nearly 75% of all e-mail traffic is Spam, so it is important to take
some proactive action in order to reduce this simply to reduce the amount of
traffic flowing through cyberspace. This will aslo help to reduce the amount
of viruses floating around and possibly into your computer.
The solutions and descriptions mentioned here are aimed to assist mere mortals.
